Eko Supriyanto

Eko Supriyanto studied Javanese court dance in the Surakarta style and Indonesian Martial Arts (Pencak Silat) since he was 7 years old from his grandfather in Magelang, Central Java. Eko's works have been presented throughout Indonesia, the United States (American Dance Festival, APPEX, Highways Performance Space, Seattle Mime Theatre, The Getty Museum Los Angeles, ACDFA Hayward and New Mexico), Asia and Europe since 1989.
Eko Supriyanto graduated from the ISI Surakarta, the Indonesian Institute for the Arts in Solo, Central Java Indonesia where he is now serving as a faculty member. Eko holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Degree from the UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures with a full scholarship from the Ford Foundation, Asian Cultural Council and UCLA. Eko is currently studying for his doctrate degree in Performance Studies at Gajah Mada University.
Eko has collaborated with master teachers and mentors such as Peter Sellars, Judy Mitoma, David Rouseve, Sardono W Kusumo, Jarot B Darsono in his film of Opera Jawa and Generasi Biru by Garin Nugroho. Eko has recently danced and choreographed for the John Adams's opera "Flowering Tree" directed by Peter Sellars.
