BIRDS WITH SKYMIRRORS - CEREMONY

This is the commencement ceremony where members of MAU will receive full body tattoo (tatau) marking the beginning of the new work Birds With Sky Mirrors by Lemi Ponifasio.

FACES ON THE BODY

Albert Refiti will present Faces on the Body where he will discuss the Samoan art tatau (tattoo). Albert proposes that tatau is a form of bloodletting that allows the body as a social being to become a transparent being - the soul is thrown on the surface of the body, not hidden in some private part of the being. Tatau is the forcing of the body to bleed the genealogical self to the surface, bringing to the moment the work of the ancestors.
